Q: Can we keep our own GP?
Yes, providing your existing GP is relatively local to the home. The GP also needs to be prepared to continue looking after you and to visit the home on request.
Q: What are your visiting hours?
The Springlawn Group operates an “open visiting” policy. So, our clients can have visitors at any time between 10am and 9 pm. The exception to this is mealtimes, unless family come to assist with the meal.
Relatives and friends will be welcomed. We also provide our telephone number should they wish to ring and chat to clients at any time.
Q: What activities do you provide?
The Springlawn Group employ Activities Therapist within all their homes on a full time basis. The Activities Therapists do activities to stimulate the clients and involve them in discussions and movements. They have excellent communication skills and will encourage and involve clients in what she is doing.
Our regular activities include:
- Bingo
- Musical entertainment
- Arts and crafts
- Movement classes
- Games
- Poetry reading
- Reading local newspapers and chat
- Hand care and nail painting
Q: Can I take my mother/father/relative out?
Definitely. As long as there are no medical reasons that might prevent this. We always encourage trips out and know how much our clients enjoy a change of scene. All we ask is that you give us advance warning. Then we can ensure they are properly prepared and that we know roughly when to expect them back.
Q: Do you provide hairdressing and beauty?
A Hairdresser visits Hillcrest every week to carry out any treatments that clients request. This is payable locally. The hairdresser will visit outside of these times for special events e.g. wedding/family party on request.
The care assistants employed within the home are often very efficient at setting hair. They will do hair in between the hairdresser’s visits after showers for clients etc.
The beautician will visit the home to carry our treatments as desired and again this is payable locally. As part of activities, our Care Assistants will do hand and face care, and also foot spa, free of charge.
Q: Can we bring our own furniture?
Of course, but please be aware that it may not be possible to accommodate large items of furniture. Clients’ bedrooms are furnished and cover all the basic needs for storage and comfort. However, we always encourage clients to bring something of their own to personalise their room. This can help them settle in and feel more at home.
Still have questions to ask?
Please contact the home and our staff will be happy to chat through any questions you may have. Better still, why not arrange a visit?
